“The thick fog that settled in over Gillette Stadium midway through the game was not to blame. Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said his team just isn’t executing when it needs to most. “I think the real story of the game is our situational football,” Quinn said. “On both sides tonight, we didn’t play up to our standards on third down. In the red zone, we were one for four. To me, that’s where part of this came about. “I believe in the team like crazy. But we’ve got work to do to play our standard of ball.” The Falcons were 7-of-13 on third downs, but they missed on their first five tries to convert. They also missed on two fourth-down situations after converting their first try. Throw in a 37-yard field-goal try by Matt Bryant that was blocked and a 36-yarder that clanked off the upright, and it was just that kind of night for the Falcons.”
